This volume offers a compact intro to Burns, with helpful footnotes explaining words and phrases in the Scots dialects that Burns strove to capture. My one complaint is that it did end a bit abruptly. As well as making original compositions, Burns collected folk songs from across Scotland, often revising or adapting them.
